Wow, I can't believe I stumbled on to your site. Good to know that music is still with you. I met you in the early 70's when you played a show at Univ. of CA in San Luis Obispo. It was a free show for the student body to start the school year. You were living in Mexico at the time I believe, working a few weeks a year. I learned Me and My Uncle off of you Live at the Family Dog (?) album. If you recall, we had a throw in comedy act that drove up from LA named Cheech and Chong that you followed that night as the headliner. A folk singer from Montana, Kasha Oman(?) opened. It was obviously a great night.

Hey Danny
And I'm the third of the Norm and Alan group. Your "double thumbing" version of "Ramblin' Rakin' Sailor Lad" still brings chills to my memory. But you spelled your name differently then. Co3x. (The three was silent!) Happy trails, bro!

Just to second Norm Fletcher. I was one of the instigators who spirited you away to our clubhouse in Modesto and enjoyed the pleasure of your company that evening. You were an inspiration then, as I'm sure you are now! I've remembered your wisdom throughout my musical career. Many thanks and ROCK ON BROTHER!!!!
PS How is Sherry?

In the early 60s, you performed at the Modesto Junior College auditorium and we kidnapped you after the concert. We all went to our clubhouse, built next to our one of our group's parents home and played music until the wee hours. We remembered your advice about how to "sell" a song and the evening was spent enjoying your company and learning about the guitar.
We were proud to have spent time with you and it is great to know that you're still making music.
God bless you Danny Cox!

Danny I use to hang out with you and Patty and family when you lived off of Troost in the 70's. We recorded some down at UMKC's studio, fun times. Lost contact when I started touring and moved to Colorado. Hope your doing well.

I knew you in Ajijic in 1972-73. Tall blond young Viet Nam era draft escapee. I played some on the basketball team with Jacobo, you, Spider, and David. I went to Peru with Bob Golden and never made it back to Ajijic back then. You and Barb were always very gracious to me. I'll always remember you playing guitar looking out onto the lake. I remember you riding through town on Paloma, your very fast horse that humiliated Antonio Perez. You look good. Hope all is well. Alan

I was in an audience at K-state in '68 or '69. You broke a guitar string and sang Mariah while an audience member replaced the guitar string. I can still hear your voice fill the room -- still have your record.

Danny, no one has ever sung the song Suzanne as well as you -- hands down. I would love it if you would consider singing it the way you use to on a video posted on Utube. It is my favorite song of all time, primarily because I first heard you sing it. John Price

Danny, I used to listen to you and Brewer & Shipley at the Vanguard. Some of my old LPs are not playable any more (including yours), and I'd love to be able to get some of your older albums. Any help? I'd be happy to order and pay from CD Baby or any other site, but can't find them. -A friend from 40 years ago

I was a high schooler working for Stan at the Vanguard where Danny was a regular sometime back in '67/'68. When Danny sang, I took my breaks and watched/listened to him on stage. I was hypnotized! I even tried to imitate Danny after coffee house closing while playing my guitar, with "Mom" the cook and her daughters as my audience. (Stan was on vacation!) Danny's rendition of "A Day in the Life" was the most awesome song I've ever heard even to this date! Danny's wardrobe: his signature vest, straw Panama with thick sideburns down the jaw, light color, long sleeve shirt, brown bell-bottoms wide leather belt and buckle, and boots that were tapping a resounding beat on the stage as he mellifluously went through the haunting chords of a beautiful and thoughtful song without strain or off note. The sweat glistened from his face as he sang with all his passion that was very genuine and felt by everyone in the audience. Danny's offstage personality was the kindest I've ever known. Danny is one of a kind, and many people have no clue what they've been missing! I haven't been in contact with Danny (or Stan) since I taught at nearby Lillis High (off of Troost & 37th) in 1977 - shortly before I headed to Florida and another life. Best wishes, Danny!

I saw Danny Cox perform late 60's early 70's at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH. Perhaps embarrassing to him now but he spilled his pipe tobacco container of dope on the ground and we helped him gather it back up. What a marvelous performer. I still listen to "Birth Announcement" I wish it was on
CD. What an amazing memory of seeing him perform.

You are probably responsible for my life long love of roots music. I heard you play one night at Ruskin High school and I was hooked. I spent as much time as I could from then on at the Vanguard.

Hi Danny,
I saw you perform in St. Louis area once at Keil Auditorium and another time on the UMSL campus. Your rendition of 'A day in the life' was incredible, and your stage presence and good humor infectious. Glad to see you're making music. The train don't come when you want it, but it's always right on time.

Hello, Danny Cox! I met you in May 1970 when I opened ahead of you in a day-long folk show at Wayne State University in Detroit. I was just 21 then. About two years ago, I released my second CD, "The Fisherman's Patience," for which I licensed "Rake and Ramblin' Sailor Lad" through Harry Fox (hope you got the check from them!). I would be honored if you could send me an address so I can send you a copy of the CD. I play it in a bit different style from the original, but people like it and I frequently open my own live shows with it. Thanks again for a fine song and the copy of "Family Dog," which I still have. I hope our Almighty Father has blessed you as he has me (I am now a newspaper reporter/editor in Mobile, Ala.). Please let me know how you'd like it sent, and I'll be at the postal counter the next morning. Thanks, God bless! Mark

Very strange guestbook. Remember you tonight. Used to listen to you at the Backdoor in St. Joe and the Vanguard in KC. Hmmmmmmm......long time ago, perhaps 1968 & 69. Still hear "Here comes the Naz, stompin' cross the water..." just like it was last week. Simple times, awakening times, times that will never be again. Thank you for jumping into my mind tonight and giving me something nice to think about. Thanks

Danny,
I remember seeing you in 1968 at the club at 43 rd and Main, across from Luybens's music and around the corner from the Levee Bar. Stan ran the joint. He also booked Brewer and Shipley. I remember him introducing them as the "goys who sing vun token ober da line, baby chesus." It was a hoot and I never forgot it. Today I read that Merl Saunders and Jerry Garcia joined you on the album you recorded at Wally Heiders. I did not know about that period, but enjoyed connecting the dots back to you.
Keep up the good work!

I saw Danny at Florida State University in the early 1970's at a coffee club and was totally fascinated by his music. Went to see him nightly as he played for a week in Tallahassee. Have searched for his music and only recently found some on iTunes. Glad to hear he's still making beautiful music. Are Danny's earlier albums still available?

Hi Danny. Just doing a little reminiscing today; I first saw you at the Vanguard with Allen Dameron around 1965. I loved that little coffee house and the folk music you all played there. I used to hang out at Tom and Gwen’s and would see you from time to time there as well. I remember the afternoon you and their Irish Setter were playing in the front yard. Nice to see you are still hanging in there.

I first saw Danny my senior year at Raytown High School (1969). I'm pretty sure he was the first black person through the doors at old RHS!
I've often hear Danny's voice on local commercials lately, but, would really like to see him play again someday soon.

My friend, you are one of the all time greats in show business. Wanted to let you know that your music and guitar has been an inspiration to a great many people.
The Vanguard represented some of the truly great times in my life. I still have the Sunshine album and play it from time to time.
We were very sorry to hear about the house fire. Will keep you and your family in our prayers.
I understand that you will be at BB's on tuesday, 2-26-08. Looking forward to seeing you and hearing you play again.

Hi, Danny. As bass player with the old Kansas City band, "Country Heir", I had several opportunities to play shows with you and talk from time to time. Of course, I was a fan of yours from the Vanguard days and remain a fan today.
Sorry to hear about the fire at your house.
My best to you and your family.

Danny,
Im can't think of any musician that I love as much as you. We have been friends since Vanguard days. You have given me so much I would consider it an honor to give back to you as you have given to me and Linda. Please contact me if there is anything I can do no matter how small.
I just finished Troost Avenue Blues and loved it. If there is any way to buy a cd of your albumn with the Vanguard songs I would love to have it.

Mr. Cox, I just now, belately, heard of the tragic loss of your home. I used to come see you play at The Vanguard in the 60s and hold very fond memories of that time, place, and esp. you. You and your family are in my best wishes. (Btw, I still own the album Stan did for you back then as well as your first real album. I treasure both, but esp. the former.) Take care.

Danny,
I saw you in a small coffee house in Fayettville, N.C. back in the late 60's. I'll never forget that show which included the best version of "A Day in the Life" that,to this day, reverberates in my memory as a top 3 sonic thrill. I also recall you playing some type of Indian raga on your guitar. Was that ever recorded?

Danny,
I first heard you sing at an assembly at Park Hill High School. Probably 1972. I fell in love with your music. As the internet grew I would search once in awhile to see if I could find any news or records of yours that I did not have. For some reason I searched today, after a couple of years, and found a ton of information! How wonderful to hear you are still performing and recording. I will pick up you new music and see what else I can find. I have one question. There was a song you sang about a rabbit. Do you remember what it was? Did you ever record it?
All the best,
Skip
