Danny Cox has passed the point where you say he's a "fixture" on the Kansas City music scene. Danny is an institution, a legend, and most of all, the real thing through and through. His unique guitar style and "I-don't-need-no-stinking-PA" voice have rung in every corner of Kansas City, and in countless folk clubs and concert halls across the country. Starting his career in the early 1960's, Danny has always brought together elements of folk, gospel, blues, rock n'roll, island music, children's songs, spirituals, on and on. Danny Cox is a truly American voice. "Sunny", his first album from 1968, is mostly an album of cover tunes that were staples in his live act. Danny's passionate voice and sometimes startling acoustic guitar work makes each standard song his own. Most songs are Danny and his guitar, sometimes a bass player joins in. For long time fans, this is the record that you got first, this is the one that made you love the guy.
Danny Cox - CD
Every good and true artist has their day with a major label. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. Danny Cox, legendary Kansas City folk singer with a 50-year career going, made this album for ABC/Dunhill back in 1971, when Kansas City's music scene was getting national attention. The big producer, the big band, the San Francisco studio. And the result was this exhuberant, soulful and quirky album, mostly of Danny's original songs. While it's more of a band sound, and Danny's acoustic guitar work is not showcased as on "Sunny", his voice is what it's all about.
